Brilliant Stages was approached in late 2018 to provide various staging elements for German heavy metal act and perennial entertainers, Rammstein.
Brilliant provided the rolling house stage, rolling tech bunkers, a rolling band riser and a rolling drum riser, including drum tech area. All of which was built around our standard beam and frame system. We used 150 linear metres of black PUFC fabric to ensure the whole system was waterproofed. The whole main stage was covered in Yorgrip, a specialist high grip aluminium surface finish that was tough and flameproof, allowing Rammstein to perform their usual pyro-heavy energetic show.
We also designed and built a multi-axis stage lift capable of lifting 500kgs. This could double-up as a ramp or a straight lift in a single unit. This was built on a separate rolling dolly for ease of transportation and included a separate power pack.
Another element we produced were the removable fascias which included integrated cross and fin motif with digital mappable LED top and bottom. We also provided all of the ‘tron’ LED lighting that fitted to the stage edges which consisted of floppy flex and drivers.
The two main challenges for this project were the hydraulic lift / ramp and the band riser underworld.
The hydraulic ramp was tricky as it needed to perform both a lift function and a tilt function. This required some clever programming in the control system, and a slightly unusual set of hydraulic pipework and valves. However, we worked closely with our consultants Blumano to ensure we met relevant regulations and the ramp passed its TUV certification with flying colours.
For the band riser underworld, we had to design an especially large open area under the band riser to allow the extra-large props onto the stage. This required a change over from the originally designed beam and frame system to a completely new support system whilst still making sure that the band could rehearse the next day.
