For The U2 Vertigo Tour 2005 Brilliant Stages
were commissioned to design a screen deployment system for a revolutionary
led ball screen.
The first show was in San Diego. The LED
ball strings were deployed at the top of show, all seven curtains
rolling out of the grid to their full 30 feet to reveal lighting and
video effects never experienced before. The curtains can by viewed
from a full 360 degrees and although they are a low resolution LED
screens the video images are very clear and effective. The video curtains
are the brainchild of set designer Mark Fisher and lighting designer
Willie Williams.
The video whales (large tunnel screens) supplied
by Tomcat US showed live and recorded images, mostly of the band,
as they played to an extremely receptive audience.
